Pastor's reflections

Monthly faith reflections from the pastor.

Something to think about

7/25/2019

How can we live in the meantime?
These are life and death questions. We have so many opportunities to remember and tell the stories of why we answer them the way we do and to call each other to align more truly our living with what we say we believe.
Apart from Amos, the thought occurs to me: I am going to die. I remember more often as I get older. Since Susannah and Amos were born. When news of death comes.
The author of Psalm 30 asked God, “So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a wise heart.” Amen.
Framed and hanging on my wall at home is a postcard I found at an antique shop. Next to a skull and cross bones, it says, “Get busy, old man.” It’s a playful call to awaken a wiser heart.
God has given you work to do. But you are neither the source nor the goal. You need not fear your beginning, middle, or end. Whether you live or die, it’s in your beloved Jesus Christ who completes even what you never began and who will begin you again, together with all creation.

Thanks be to God.
