Monthly faith reflections and other ponderings and sermons from the pastor.

Sermon Series: school of hope

1/29/2017

Please join us for Pastor Clark's sermon series "School of Hope"

In the Gospel according to Matthew—more than Mark, Luke or John—Jesus is a teacher. The “Sermon on the Mount” is his best-known training workshop, and in Matthew, it’s only one of five!

We’re about to hear from the Sermon on the Mount for four Sundays in a row. What I hear is hope. How to find hope. Day-to-day doing and being hope. The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ School of Hope.

Hope is living on the edge
”Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
January 29

Hope is salty
“You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world.”
February 5

Hope is shalom
“...if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.”
February 12

Hope is admitting we have enemies
“Love your enemies”
February 19

Hope is always unfinished
“Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
February 26, Transfiguration Sunday
