COMMUNITY MEAL
On the last Sunday of each month (except August & December), our Saint Paul congregation opens the doors of our building and welcomes people from the Clinton area to a free monthly Community Meal. As Coordinator of this meal for a number of years now, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who contribute of your time, your talents and your monetary or food donations to make this monthly meal a reality. On average 75 – 100 people gather at 5:30 pm each month in our building’s Fellowship Hall. In the verses I quoted from the Gospel of St. John, Jesus tells Simon Peter, “feed my lambs”. This meal is one concrete way that we answer Jesus’ call to do just that. But this meal represents so much more. I realize that there are folks experiencing difficult and challenging financial situations…who truly appreciate the opportunity for a nice, hot meal. But as I have learned, there are those who come month after month, because they enjoy the time of fellowship this meal provides. They are being fed, nourished, and taken care of in other ways as well. As a congregation, we have the unique opportunity to be a friendly face or perhaps a listening ear for someone who just needs to talk. We provide a venue where God is at work in the relationships that have been forged over time. Strangers become friends and community happens. Participating in the monthly community meals has been a truly life-giving experience for me.
If you are interested in lending a helping hand with the Community Meal and serving in a unique way in the life of this congregation, here’s how you can help:
– check the Volunteer or Menu Needs lists found on the kiosk in the chapel area and sign up to help; and/or
– give a financial contribution. You can do this by making out a check to Saint Paul Lutheran Church and earmarking it for the Community Meal. Any donations will be reflected on your giving statement and
– just come, eat and share life with us.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to call me, Carolyn Luebe at 259-0829. Peace, Carolyn Luebe, Community Meal Coordinator
