Drowning Old Scratch
In Lent, Pastor Clark’s sermons will be celebrations of the victory Jesus won for us and all the world over the devil.
They will complement the Wednesday Lent book study on Reviving Old Scratch. Old Scratch is a nickname for the devil, and drowning has long been an image of what baptism into Jesus Christ does—drown sin and death, making people free.
March 5 Jesus tempted by Satan
March 12 Jesus with Nicodemus
March 19 Jesus with the woman at the well
March 26 Jesus healed a man born blind
April 2 Jesus raised Lazarus
April 9 Jesus arrested, executed on the cross, and buried
These very personal encounters—many one-on-one—reveal the battle Jesus joined for the sake of the world. More, they show what Jesus’ victory over the devil makes possible for real people, like us.
